Interesting to see all candidates using blue for their signs. Makes low information voters think they’re all likely democrats. Research and asking questions is fundamental to being an informed voter.
Wow! Thanks, David. This is so incredibly helpful. I think there should be some kind of one page template scorecard for every candidate that runs for any office. Happy to contribute to that effort if any group is already working on something similar.
We may chuckle at some of the idiotic ideas of far-right nutballs, but they're not as dumb as they sound or look. They know two things:
1. The traditional start to an American politician's career is to get elected to the School Board. City Council is next, then state legislature, and federal after that.
2. School Board elections have low voter turnout but important impact. School Boards decide what textbooks kids read, what they are taught, and who teaches them. Put neo-Nazis in charge of School Boards, and kids read "Mein Kampf" and "The International Jew" from Proud Boys. And the child is the father to the man.
Amen to this! From book banning to curriculum rewriting, they’re after public education while supporting private & charter schools - draining the public school coffers!
Brilliant! Thank you for doing this. So many people do not understand how to check out candidates, and how very important it is to elect the right ones.
The bigger challenge is; how to get that info out into the community and how do you get people to vote in local elections. I’m in a SoCal city in the middle of a recall effort to recall 3 white nationalists extremists on our school board because our city residence just don’t bother to vote. It’s been a nightmare for our students and teachers. It is costing our school district tens of thousands of dollars. We were also an award winning school district and it is so incredibly sad to see the destruction they are intentionally doing.
Thank you so much for this, David! I will disseminate it far and wide. They are really hitting Pennsylvania hard with these far-right extremist "Mom's For Liberty" candidates in traditionally Democratic areas. Their deceptive and shady tactics can fool a lot of people, so we need to keep getting the word out.
Why are the right-wing candidates' signs blue? Are they possibly trying to make us think they are Democrats? Does that mean the Democrats have a definite edge?
Thank you so much for highlighting this great list of Ohio extremist school board candidates https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bNftkYLPiW84VhBHqjkp32REyerA_xfn534zkbTKeSg/edit. Voters are hungry for accessible imformation about School Board and other local candidates, which usually shows up late in the campaign season (if at all). My work this fall in Ohio and Virginia Facebook groups tells me there are many negatives with this lack of info/late arriving info - including voters inadvertently voting for a candidate who does not share their values and, importantly, for better funded campaigns - like Yes on 1 in Ohio - that promote early voting, depressing the vote from voters who would have voted early but don’t because they are still waiting for info on local candidates. This lack of solid info on local candidates/issues BEFORE early voting starts is a big issue and I urge everyone to think about how to compile and deliver this local information to voters across the country in 2024. Also early local info will help get out the Dem vote! (I am pretty sure 95% of Mothers 4 Liberty’s raison d’etre - and why they are so generously funded by right wing billionaires - is to drive R voters to the polls)
Great. Just added.
Here is a link to Moms4Liberty's endorsed candidates, broken down by state and county.

Voting against anyone on this list is a good start.

Thanks for this list, David. I know who to vote for in my district but I know these candidates are flying under the radar. They need to be exposed.

Great points, Kathleen, especially about getting this information out to voters earlier for next year's election!
But what do we do when, after finding one of the two school board candidates is legit, and the other a fascist, our ballot says, “only vote for two”?
