David, thank you for this. Your commentary on Chris Hayes‘s show last night and this newsletter give Democrats reason for hope. With deep admiration for all of your work, I will be featuring your comments tonight in my newsletter. Keep up the good work!
I watched Emelia Sykes explain her campaign strategy in a Blue Ohio meeting shortly after she won her purple seat that no one thought she'd win. That was a master class IMHO on how Democrats can win "purple" seats, and I think all the Dem Ohio Congressional Reps and Sherrod Brown have used that same playbook. They've all proved that Dems can win in Ohio by engaging communities and listening (as Brown pointed out) and maintaining focus on helping constituents resolve problems and crafting legislation to benefit them. To me that's 101 but those politicians who do it well and effectively communicate results can win tough races.
David, I would love to see you share that video because she blew me away with her warmth, intelligence, humanity and discipline and I think Dems in and outside of Ohio would find her uplifting and informative.
Sherrod Brown works for all Ohioans, and he gets it like Kasich once got it. He will be himself, not a lawless chameleon like Vance and now Moreno. I have few resources as an early retiree, but I support BlueOhio to the extent I can, and I am committed to holding Sherrod in our senior Senate seat. My heart broke when Tim lost but yes, Sherrod is stronger statewide than Tim was and Bernie is weaker than JD (who had natl profile, such as it was).
Sherrod deserves our commitment, as he's essential to retaining the Senate in this risky November election. I can't give much, but I'm giving more and I hope we can all do the same for our children's future 🙏
I am confident that Sherrod Brown will keep his Senate seat. There is a big difference between Brown and Moreno. Sherrod is for the people, for Ohio and for the working class; Moreno is for Moreno only. A narcissist that his only purpose of being a Senator is to contradict the Democrats and pleasing his idol, Trump
I love Hayes' comment above that the nation has in essence come around to Sherrod's positions. If he can help Dems win the Senate solid at 55 seats or more he could be a great national voice/ Cabinet pick.
Re POTUS, I can’t or refuse to see Trump winning the popular vote. I worry about the Electoral College and SCOTUS. In the latter case, I think there are four firm votes opposed to any crap of a case Trump presents. Whether there’s a fifth vote though…
Another concern, maybe worry: choice referenda have been doing fine, but while Dems have doing well, they’re not doing as well as the referenda.
So Brown. That he seems very popular means isn’t reassuring given that a state that can elect Vance and Jordan can do anything. I suppose what Brown needs is a huge get out the vote. Is there any organization to back with such pittance as I can afford? Or would money be better going directly to Brown?
Activate America (www.activateamerica.vote) is working in OH in the Senate Race as well as 3 House races to reelect Dems in OH-01, OH-09, and OH-13. They are currently focusing on other states primaries, but they do phonebanking, texting, and postcarding campaigns. Sign up to get their emails.
Also I am a firm believer in reverse coattails, so for local races, it is great to go out and canvas for a local candidate esp. when there is a coordinated campaign where you talk about up-ballot candidates as well. I will also put in a plug for a group I know David supports - Blue Ohio (https://blueohio.org/)
Do more & worry less. Find a way comfortable way to effect the change in Ohio politics you want to see...... Dem turnout? Get connected with your county or state Dem party & and put in the effort. It is what we all have to do, everywhere. Mobilize.us
I’m not an Ohio resident but take the term United States literally — like state as in nation, not province or whatever. Every state, in its way, is its own thing, yet more so for presidential elections. So re Ohio, all I have is 💵
Not an Ohioan either AND have $$$ plus time. Love to spend my time writing postcards to support BLUE candidates. I have a few favorites that I focus on that I found via Mobilize.
I'm afraid you're missing a critical component that showed itself in '22. Back in the '90's, when Clinton signed NAFTA into law, the Democratic party lost the Dem vote all along the Ohio River. They lost it in all 3 states; PA, WV, and OH. They have yet to get it back. If all those misguided folks in the southeast portion of Ohio turn out to vote for Marino, plus the abundance of MAGAts in Ohio, we've got serious troubles. So, what's needed more than anything else is Democratic turnout. Otherwise.......

I watched you with Chris Hayes. Excellent segment. My vote is for Sherrod Brown.
I hope you’re right. Sherrod Brown IS Ohio in a way that Ryan was not.
While I'm not an Ohio and, I'm proud to have donated to Sherrod and sent a lot of postcards for him via Activate America!

How is Brown doing?
I’m starting to get f***ing worried about 2024.

Women's bodily autonomy is THE issue
& morreno will lose in tbe general
Tens of thousands of Ukrainian-American voters have heard Vance and Republicans say give up Ukraine to Putin. It's atrocious.
