Thank you, David, for including the report for us to study. I'm glad you were moved to find out more about this atrocity. Knowing the history of race relations in the country, we must all work to keep making forward progress--not going backward as the would-be dictator wants to take us.
I hope we can save this Valuable History for the Generation's to come. There's so much to learn from our past, and this next administration is going to do Everything to silence, white-wash and even Erase all evidence of White Supremacy. Making a New History in their own image. Thank You, David for your insight on this story, and will reStack ASAP 🙏💯
David thank you for sharing this. It’s so important to have the DOJ correct the history of this horrific event.
Just before the pandemic I visited Greenwood and the museum where the permanent exhibit is housed. Photos of a thriving community then, seeing photos after the massacre along with reading the newspapers at the time write disinformation about the event was difficult to see. It reminded me of my trips to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
Both of these are part of the history of this country and though difficult to acknowledge we must face these hard truths.
Dr. Dick Gregory said the business alliance(s) of Black, Chinese and Native/Indigenous was/were making $1, 000,000.00 each week. The majority population, Caucasian businesses and others said 'We want in.' after denying them access to their services and businesses. He also said they used crop dusters to bomb the Black community and the businesses.
Really appreciate the DOJ link! There is one more step after "having justice served," and that is the learning of it.
Racial segregation doesn't work. Because when one side is successful, the other side gets jealous. And if the power is with the jealous, there is trouble.
The Tulsa Race Massacre is a poster child for that. All the sanctimonious talk about "bootstrapping" oneself out of poverty and into success was just too much for the surrounding white community to bear. And the newspapers were in on it.
Thank you for posting this Since I have cancelled my subscription to the NYT, I wasn't able to read it online. Many thoughts come to mind now, but the first two (after the outrage that this even happened) is that our incoming DOJ will never again put out a report like this and that this type of terrorizing of communities by those in power will soon become more common.
Thank you, David. I want to see this on my next trip to Tulsa. Our daughter moved there recently. It’s so important to document history accurately. We need current day reporters to stay on top of our news and get it right too.
Whenever the white patriarchy feels that "others" have achieved too much, come too far, there is a violent backlash. The violence may be physical, legislative or economic, but it is all violence.
The same is happening now. Those of us armed with knowledge must put up the fight of our lives to protect rights for us all. Solidarity.
One of my MAGA friends came to lunch yesterday. After my husband asked him to share his thoughts on Trump’s re-election, he said “You could drive a truck into a block wall and you would be more successful than that guy”.
