Neither Alito nor Thomas would be on the SCOTUS bench without Democrats help. 11 Democrats voted along with the Republicans to get Thomas seated. Without those votes, Thomas wouldn't be where he is. Alito's nomination is even more interesting. John Kerry called for a filibuster. 24 Democrats voted for it and 20 voted for closure. Had those 20 Democrats not done that, Alito would not be on the SCOTUS bench. You remember what happened to Kerry, yes? Well, Hillary also voted to filibuster, and we all remember what happened to her. Obama voted for the filibuster too but he later stated that he regretted it and he became president🧐 So 31 Democrats are also responsible for this nightmare place we find ourselves in🤬
Gerrymandering is a blight on Democracy. Is the answer to this moving to more "battleground" areas to increase the likelihood of a contested election? I read an article recently, (do not remember citation), that many areas of the US are entering a self-selected "gerrymandered" area that will be difficult to "correct". Perhaps an increase in number of Reps. at the Fed level, but local elections require almost a new electoral mindset. (Ranked-Choice voting, etc.)
