Trump and Musk and DOGE and the Project 2025 Republicans are in full attack mode on all that is America. And every day they do worse. Soon America will look like a bleak smoldering landscape. And it looks like the only thing that is going to stop them is the American people. Who are the Democratic leaders with teeth and spit and fire leading the way to stop this? Which is strange because when Republicans are in the minority they have no trouble throwing one wrench after another into the works. Democrats must be fighters. Who are the Democratic fighters? Where are the Democratic town halls in their districts or in Republican districts - if Republicans refuse to hold them and run away from their very own constituents. Democratic U.S. Senators should be holding town halls in Republican districts all over their states! I saw a meeting in Arizona with 4 AG's of AZ, NM, OR, and MN listening to people share their stories of the devastation the DOGE cuts are having. We need many more of those. Where is a National Democratic spokesman (like Pete Buttigieg) who appears every single day and delivers a message? A key to turning this around is for Democrats and others that care to go into communities and hold these town halls EVERYWHERE IN AMERICA and spread the word far and wide. And keep hammering away at the Republican COWARDS who refuse to stand up for their very own constituents!!!
Wonderful piece, David. We had 400 show up last Friday in sleepy San Juan Capistrano, and the reception by the people passing by was 95% positive. I love this line "I don’t want to be a person who did nothing.” We need to remember that it's We the People. Saw Mitch Landau on Nicolle Wallace's show today, and he basically said that it needs to be the people fighting for democracy, and I agree.
As a U.K. lawyer I am horrified by the attack on lawyers who are simply doing their jobs which is to do the best for their client. We have had this issue arise in the UK, similarly raised by the right to attack “leftie lawyers” (which happens to include our current PM and his AG) to which he replied with a query whether they intended to attack those lawyers on the right who had represented murderers and rapists.
Their reply was silence but sadly I doubt that would apply in the U.S. case as the republicans seem to think that rules which govern other people do not apply to them. And vice versa.
