The reality is that colossally stupid people are in charge and doing GREAT HARM. Our standing in the world has collapsed. Our federal institutions, built over many years to overcome diverse challenges, are being dismantled. All it will take is one big emergency- earthquake, hurricane, pandemic, and the weakness will become glaringly apparent.

Where is our "legacy media" challenging these perps? Why don't they ask, nay demand, that Trump/Musk and minions define the terms they banter about so freely. I'd start with "merit-based" and demand proof that those firings were necessary as well as proof that partisan replacements deserve that appellation.
Suggested action for the week: write your choice of "legacy media" and demand that THEY "demand" some explanations of this hideous administration.
This is not the way to save money. Give department heads (who actually know their objectives and their departments) a target percentage (say 10%) to cut from their budget for the coming year and succeeding years after that. Far more effective than the Musk techies’ hit or miss method.
