Thank you, David. Can you please add the impact to our Ohio education budget to this video? I’d like to send it to my younger neighbors who will watch a 2-min video but won’t bother to read an email (tldr). Also, I hope you post these to Tik Tok and Instagram. Thanks again for your great work and congrats on your growing national prominence as a spokesperson for democracy!
Are Ohio vouchers good in religious schools? Ones that actually teach the religious doctrines. That has always seemed to me to be the primary reason in many states for initiating these programs: state funding of religious education.
To the credit of the Catholic Church, I've spoke to many who went to Catholic schools because they were in fact the best schools in the area. But they have said that if you weren't Catholic, you were not required to attend any religious classes.
Not at all sure that applies to Evangelical schools. Nor to the reasons people want to send their kids to them.
As is easy to see from the recent 5th Circuit decision on contraception, minors, and Title X, the wall between Church and State is crumbling fast.
I am interested to know how many of these private schools are Charter schools. Betsy DeVos and her friends have been (unsuccessfully) trying to force vouchers on Michigan voters for at least 20 years. The private schools they want to support are largely Christian-based and Conservative (Dominionist?) private Charter schools, while the public school funding would be greatly reduced.
Here’s some background in the situation in the neighboring state where vouchers have NOT become the norm.
Vouchers are killing off the public school system. We are Catholic and I oppose vouchers. Our parish works very hard to have scholarship money to give to parishioner families. The families are also required to perform volunteer work for the parish. We have many grades k-8 charter schools in our community. They come to our high school as freshmen. They charter schools are mostly two full grades behind and require tutoring. Huffman's law partner's wife had a charter school. Parents were notified on a Wednesday that the school would be closing at end of day that Friday. Parents only had two days to find a school for their children. I might add that Matt Huffman himself delivered the letters to the school as a favor to his friend. There was never any investigation.
We’ve gone from mythical “Welfare Queens” to actual “Wealthfare Divas”!

100% correct! Many who receive vouchers today are those who don’t need them financially! Duh!
