I’m on Florida Gulf Coast.. experienced a direct hit from Ian. Devastating effects of Helene .. again. The insurance is out of control and quickly becoming out of reach for lots of residents. It’s a frightening prospect that these agencies could disappear

Isn’t it ridiculously stupid GOP wants to do away with NOAA, FEMA etc?

Sooner or later most of us get hit with a tornado, flooding, hurricane or some other natural disaster or a disaster of our own making.

Eliminating NOAA strikes me as much of a piece with trump's famous "if we don't test for Covid, our numbers will look much better."

Hello from Tampa. I cannot believe how badly the city and St. Pete were hit by Helene. We were hardly warned about it and only the mobile homes and evacuation zone A were told to evacuate. I’ve lived here my whole life and I’ve NEVER seen flooding like we encountered. So many people I know here and on the other side of the bay lost everything and many ended up dangerously trapped due to no one expecting how badly this would affect us. I keep reminding everyone that it was bad now even with the most accurate information but can you imagine how bad it will be without that?!

We luckily fared fine, we are in the heights, the highest elevation in the city and our only damage was our dramatic Norfolk pine ridding herself of her branches and needles. But I’m less than a mile from the river and houses there are total losses. It’s incredible how badly they were flooded.

When these events hit Red States the citizens need to remember you support a party that denies what is happening - climate change! Vote BLUE!

The answer to what a second Trump term would be like is, “He doesn’t plan to help you.”

So for some reason Project 2025 would have us ignore what our five senses are telling us is the real world and the reality we’re living in? We are to pretend their denial of facts is an adequate substitute for what we can see with our own eyes? Talk about blinders! Tell that to a family whose house and all their possessions blew away in a hurricane and see how they respond. I guess those Bozos don’t give a rat’s ass about the suffering of everyone. The wind from a hurricane does not care at all about whether it decimates a shack, a nice house in the suburbs, or a mansion. Vote Blue. Leave them out where they belong: in the land of Nod. No Eden for them.

FEMA has done nothing to help after tornado in Indiana. The weather station is a maybe or maybe not rain, tornadoes, etc. all federal agencies are useless.

Living in Florida, I can’t agree with your statement. We need information to plan for the worst.

You have been having hurricanes for 100s of years. Your plan should already be put in place by your Counties District Team.

All states were given monies to prepare for disasters that could occur in their states. All districts of the states were given monies and meetings were to be held monthly, drills were to be performed quarterly or yearly depending on type of exercise. All of this occurred after Katrina. I know Indiana is prepared.

Sounds like Indiana doesn’t need FEMA so what are you talking about? You do realize that red states take more money from the federal government than blue states. You’re probably uninformed about just how much federal funding helps and maintains communities everywhere including Indiana.

You sound like one of those rubes who marches around GOP hatefests with a sign that reads, “keep the government’s hands off my Medicare” which is obviously a federal government program. 😂
