As if you didn’t have enough to do in saving democracy at the national level, David. You are doing a yeoman’s job to shine a light on Ohio’s seemingly corrupt judiciary. I’m in awe of your ability to keep track of all the shenanigans.
Doesn't Ohio have a judicial ethics commission that can discipline judges for ethics violations? I'm from NY, and here this sort of thing (if anyone were bold enough to attempt it) would have significant consequences. But, of course, no one would even dare! Certainly an objection or motion might have been made, but the apparent violation exists regardless.
I asked the same question on X yesterday. Ultimately imo I think the judge should have recused himself. Surely he had Deja vous feeling that the case seemed familiar to him. But then again it’s Ohio. Vote him out!
“As Ohio goes, so goes the nation.” That use to apply for presidential elections, sadly with the sad slide of judicial ethics, it looks to be applicable to Supreme Courts.
Thank you, David, for fighting for justice and accountability not only in Ohio but in every local, state and federal office including my home state of Tennessee, where a similarly lawless GOP supermajority grovels to elite, connected interests while denying and denigrating the needs of the least of us.
What's really sad is this is some of these same individuals were part of the group that stuck Hamilton County Taxpayers with the Stadium Tax and the overspending on that contract due to a massive failure to properly audit the contractors during the build and to accurately project future costs, for which taxpayers are still on the hook. This whole deal was, in essence, taxpayers subsidizing team owners and season ticket holders on a continuing basis. The fact that most are all still in some form of public office is absolutely insane.
Wall St. Journal calls Bengals stadium deal “one of the worst ever struck”
"Complaints About [Ohio} Attorneys and Judges - The Supreme Court of Ohio has the constitutional responsibility to oversee the practice of law in the state and has one of the most comprehensive disciplinary systems of any state in the nation. The Court has established three offices—Office of Disciplinary Counsel, Board of Professional Conduct, and the Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection--to exercise independent authority to assist the Court in meeting its responsibility as set forth in Section 5(b), Article IV, of the Ohio Constitution." https://www.odc.ohio.gov/
Kevin, are you aware of efforts in Ohio to file complaints with the Office of Disciplinary Council, the Board of Professional Conduct and the Lawyer's Fund for Client Protection?
If you're in Colorado I highly recommend volunteering to get the Fair Districts intiative on the ballot. Citizens Not Politicians and the League of Women Voters are both helping with it. If we can get rid of gerrymandering maybe we can correct this whole system

Ohioans! Vote Deters out! That is our only option.

Did the lawyer for the defendant raise the conflict of interest? Just curious ...

My immediate reaction was to ask the same question.

No. Had David not written this post, I doubt many would have even been aware of this.
Staggering report about corruption. Where are the reporters? Th 4th estate? Thank you David.
Reporters? Far too many newspapers have laid off reporters, particularly those who would have been doing investigative stories of this kind.

Corruption in Republican ranks...an every day occurrence! Didnt the Democrats on the Court notice? Has the press noticed? This is egregious.
Exactly Kathy
I’d certainly appreciate a pithy cartoon to comment on this rank threadbare hypocrisy.
