Timshel!
“Thou mayest.”
As I finished East of Eden a few years ago, I couldn’t get the word out of my head. Or the concept.
“[T]hou mayest, that makes a man great, that gives him stature with the gods, for in his weakness…, he has still a great choice. He can choose his course and fight through it and win.”
Exhilarating.
Last week, my dad (the most voracious reader I know) and I talked about his new book — “The 100 Books that Shaped My Life.” We talked about why he wrote the book, as well as his favorite memoirs.
This week, we went through his favorite novels, why and how they inspired him, and the lessons they teach.
The first we discussed was East of Eden. You’ll have to watch for yourself to get to the other two.
Enjoy!
