I’m from Ohio. JD Vance wasn’t really qualified to be a Senator&is now a VP nominee.

There can be little doubt what is actually expected of a Trump VP, that’s whatever Trump says. An unconstitutional demand? Apparently not a problem.

Understand if Vance hesitated, Trump would unleash a violent mob with scaffold&noose. OK.

This amoral buffoon who would sign up for such a gig???

He's as soulless as Trump, basically the only qualification. Guessing Trump's numbers in Ohio will still drop, since not many here like Vance now that they know him better.

Sort of like Sarah Palin?

Smarter though, which makes him scarier

Vance is an empty vessel with vengeance and cruelty appetites. Dangerous man.

Thanks so much for this article. I am pretty interested in Ohio politics, read lots about it and national politics, and could not come up with ANYTHING Vance has accomplished for Ohioans, or really anyone, but himself and Trump. It is maddening that I am represented in the Senate by him. Ugh. At least Portman would sometimes sponsor a bill.

I don’t know if any of you have read this article published in the Cleveland Scene during the senatorial campaign. It’s worth reading.

Scathing article! What an empty suit!

Your research is good, sadly. I think I'll give a little more money to Sherrod today, in honor of this horrendous choice.

I too, am from Ohio ( NE ). Every time I think about vance being Senator, my feelings for my fellow Buckeyes drops a little more. But my personal opinion is, trump is NOT Hitler; vance is. His 'Elegy' is his 'Mein Kampf'. If these two somehow manage to steal the election, watch for, shortly after the inauguration, the 25th Amendment to be invoked, at which point we will be sentenced to vance as our Putin for the next 40 years. We should ALL be very frightened, and very motivated, to get everyone we know to the polls and make certain this nightmare does not become a reality.

I could definitely picture Vance doing something like that.

I think vance is the tool of the Heritage 'Foundation'. He's the guy the billionaires think will give them all they want. Just like the idiots of 1930's Germany, they're in for a rude awakening, if We The People allow it to happen. Now, it's up to US!

Don’t forget how corrupt Ohio legislators are+Gov Mike DeWine, Jon Husted, Frank Larose. Ohio beat FL&TX. We didn’t necessarily need Trump to buy an election

Oh, believe me, I've not forgotten! I share David Pepper's Substack, "Pepperspectives", everywhere. Exposing the deep corruption in Columbus is as important as exposing the MAGAts as the NAZIs they are.

Yes! Read David Pepper!

His weekly chapters regarding Project 2025 are chilling! I share those everywhere also.

Experience since 2016 has shown that when it comes to hiring people for the administration, Trump brings a casting director's eye to bear on the applicant. Does he look the part? Rex Tillerson sure did. Does he enhance the visual appeal of Trump's entourage? The boyishly handsome Johnny McEntee wouldn't be where he is today if he were homely.

Trump is also wowed by posh degrees. It's part and parcel of his Bronx insecurity complex. Why do you think Trump sent Ivanka to Choate Rosemary Hall, a finishing school favored by New York's elite? Trump loves that Ivanka has class even if he doesn't. The nation would never have heard about Trump's uncle if he hadn't been on the faculty of MIT.

J.D. Vance is the obvious pick because with his beard and tough talk he looks and sounds like an insurrectionist thug who is not going to let constitutional niceties stand in his way or Trump's. The degree from Yale law will make the boss feel like he's in with the in crowd and be a poke the eye to the wokesters in New Haven. (Between Vance and convicted seditionist Oath Keeper Elmer Stewart Rhodes, Yale Law had better take another look at their admissions process.)

I'm from Ohio which continues to make me more and more cynical about the state of our politics. One observation I have is that just like Russia picked Rex Tillerson, maybe they handpicked JD Vance because he is so pro-Russia when it comes to Ukraine. It was recently reported that Russia has put into place a "whole of government approach" to help get Trum elected. There is definitely collusion, as always with Trump. It definitely feels like there is more to the pick than the "central casting" method Trump usually uses.

It’s crazy how anti-LGBTQ+ the RNC is but it was great for JD Vance to accept a 10 million gift from gay billionaire Peter Thiel. I don’t even know who is more hypocritical in this situation

Too bad the Extremes has decided that "gratuities" after the fact are not bribes.

Years ago I bought Hillbilly Elegy because I wanted to understand the appeal of trump. Never got around to reading it. Now I am wishing I could donate a kindle book to Goodwill. I would take a negative deduction as to its value, proud to pay the extra tax resulting from netting out the books I DO donate.
