Breaking: Supreme Court Takes Trump Immunity Case
Three Quick Thoughts (Not of a Legal Nature)
Delay is the lawbreaker’s ally.
We saw this with the Moore v. Harper case, where the drawn-out Supreme Court process (to take and then reject an obviously rogue and nonsensical argument about a so-called “independent state legislature theory”) ) allowed the North Carolina GOP to ignore its state Supreme Court for long enough that they got their gerrymandered map after all. Which meant their “loss” at the Supreme Court was a win when it came to the actual politics.
In the same way, today’s decision pushes things way back, handing Trump a huge political win, even though I have no doubt his “I can assassinate people” argument will go nowhere.
You don’t have a rule of law if the only way to resolve major alleged crimes (particularly those involving elections and governance) is by defeating that alleged criminal in the election that follows. But, alas, that is where we are, America.
If they weren’t already, two things should be crystal clear, beginning today, for every American who values democracy:
First, the general election will be Trump versus Biden. That’s the choice.
Second, this will come down to the people, and not a court.
No more distractions. No more musing about alternatives.
Some make like those choices, some may not.
But the reality is that’s the choice the people will face—and it will be made in November, by the voters, and not by a court.
Prepare accordingly.
Act accordingly.
The Nov election is between fascism & democracy
sigh, your poll doesn't work even though I am a subscriber.
But the immunity argument is so, so ludicrous, as the Court of Appeals detailed extensively. This is just his buddies on the Extremes bolstering his strategy of delay, delay, delay.
