David Pepper's 10 Lessons From a Dark Past is well written and worth everyone's time. We can't assume the lunatic right won't do this or won't do that. They will if we allow it. This "Garden of Beasts" period, in which the Nazis gradually ended the Weimar Republic, is covered dramatically in the film "The Arms of Krupp." It can happen here.
I read Larsen’s book not long after its publication. The book haunted me then and continues to haunt me. Thank you for the important list of reminders.
I’m glad have shared this again. I read the book back in 2017. The similarities were too obvious back then, what with the administration at the time, and the never ending accommodation by Republican representatives and senators. It haunts me to this day. And then I followed reading Larsen’s book with reading The Handmaid’s Tale. A double whammy.
I did try to share this post on my Facebook page as I felt others should see it. Immediately received a slap down that Facebook removed my post for going against their guidelines, I guess information is off the board on Facebook now.
#7 stands out to me because we should have learned this lesson in 2016 when Trump was first elected. The media & members of his own party enabled him rather than calling him out - in fear of retribution, I’m sure. But they did not learn any lessons from his first term in office. They could have done so much more to hold Trump accountable and stop this crazy train over the last 8 years. But instead, here we are with zero guardrails left to stop anything. I had hoped voters would be the last ditch effort to stop Trump, Project 2025, and the decline into autocracy, but sadly, voters failed us, too. It’s so upsetting seeing we have learned nothing from history.
I’m convinced the media loves the drama caused by his spontaneous idiocy, caustic remarks and hedonistic lifestyle. It enrages me, but I need to dial it down so I can live in peace even as I canvass, talk to potential voter and keep reading David Pepper’s Saving Democracy. This is a time to rest up so we can do the work when it’s needed.

Excellent list of the things we all need to be doing NOW.

FB blocked my post of your article, claiming it supported Hitler and violence
How absurd
Same thing happened to me during the election... AI scanners see only the swastika depicted on the cover and block anything that carries the symbol...
Excellent read! Very prescient.
Tried to post on Fb. Post removed.
Well stated - thank you for this!
