Thank you for your efforts in supporting us teachers, David. And for this detailed description of the sacrilege here in Ohio. As a retired teacher, I am afraid of losing my income. I really don't understand what is behind the undermining of Education. I suppose it is about money and power, which we are seeing everywhere in government. Soon they will wonder why there is a teacher shortage, and why families are leaving Ohio.

Chris, in AZ where I live now (20 years), the Republican legislature has systematically taken funds from our public school tax dollars and funneled to their private schools, therefore, degrading the quality of what could be provided for all students. Some of it is to line their own pockets; some of it is to simply create a dumbed down society; some of it is “I don’t have kids in school and I don’t want to pay for that.” All equals greed and ignorance, myopic stupidity. I believe AZ is now 49th in education, all by design. Unfortunately, it took some of us a while to figure out what was going on. Digging our way out now feels so futile at times with a legislature that just falls short of having a Dem majority. But we keep trying! My parents were teachers with Cincinnati Public Schools. They have passed but they would be appalled at what is happening across the board to education. They devoted their lives to it! So, thank you for your service as well.

Thank you for sharing your similar experience in Arizona. I am sorry to hear that! Perhaps, no probably, is a national Republican plan. They definitely want to rid us of children, adults, and voters who can think for ourselves. Thanks to your parents for their service.

Thank you, David, for making this complex scheme to essentially steal the teachers' pension board as simple as you could. Knowing that Ohio is indeed one of the "laboratories of autocracy," per your previous book, I've watched these crooks for years steal as much power as they could get away with. Honest conservatives should be every bit as offended as any Ohio liberals!

This is yet another 'soft coup,' like the redistricting scandal. Because I'm an information junkie, I want to get to the bottom: what IS their motivation in doing this? Ohio politicians are fundamentally oppositional, so some of it *could* just be a psychological need to grab all the power. But like the other Ohio scandals, follow the money. I'm am damn sure it's in there somewhere. Pension scandals aren't that uncommon.

We need to send this very clear explainer to investigative sites like ProPublica or even the NYTimes and request that they look into it, at least get it to go national. Shame and expose these people!

As Mike Popok of "Legal AF" says, there could be an "easter egg" in here somewhere. We could expose a trail of corruption that could lead to ALL these folks getting fired by the People and some of them even imprisoned! (Hear that, Jon Husted?) Like HB 6, this could be FBI territory (in another administration of course).

I am so worried! I retire in September.

I think you would see effects much later on, but people like myself that retire in 20+ will pay into a system that will pay us nothing.

I’m afraid you may be correct. You can get out now or start saving more. We are so disrespected and I never thought that would happen.

This is my second career, I really love it but they make it harder and harder.

Thank you, David. And it is a scandal, white collar crime, so many teachers struggling with no COLA, it's heartbreaking.

how will we know when there are challenges?

Please!!! Keep us informed. Thank you so much. I’m spreading the word NOW!

As a retired teacher, I’m sick about the future of my pension as this has destroyed the confidence of current teachers who are looking to withdraw from supporting STRS!!!! Frightening on so many levels, crooks and corruption running Ohio!!!!!

Suzanne Whitaker's avatar

Thanks for this information. My parents retired from the Cincinnati Public School system years ago. That pension was a godsend. They are probably rolling in their graves over this one. …oh yeah, and the vouchers too! We, in AZ, have been dealing with that crock o’ sh*t for a while now. We have a Dem governor but she can only do so much when our corrupt legislature is overrun with corrupt Republicans, some who even took part in the Insurrection and the fake elector scheme. Ugh.

Thank you David……Tell us what to do?

And this is a perfect example of why "they" want to privatize Social Security. Couldn't be any more clear. Thank you for this, David.
