When you guys win could you please find a little time to look into why OhioHealth decided to put profits over patients? They claim that by taking over all of the hospitals that they can provide better care. OhioHealth closed down the maternity ward in Grady Hospital in Delaware County and now patients are having to drive 30 miles away (if not more) to another county to get to a hospital/maternity ward outside of Delaware County to give birth. This is not only dangerous for the mother and child but also makes it very difficult for the fire departments and county EMS who have to spend even more time outside their districts. It is taking away more than just resources while endangering lives. Think about all of the potential accidents that expecting fathers (and extended family members) might get into while rushing to be there for the birth of a baby. The wear and tear on the department vehicles (maintenance isn’t cheap) and then families have to go out of county for a birth certificate. No first responder wants a person to die in the back of an ambulance nor do they want one to be born in the back. The hospital is the safest place to be and OhioHealth has taken that choice away from patients. Delaware County has been the fastest growing county in Ohio for a long time now but, yet, they now have no maternity ward. This is an issue that is affecting my child, a hardworking first responder, who seems to care about their community more than the hospital system does.
