In the meantime, the media has begun to analyze what messages were sent by the two Lieutenant Governor selections. (Vivek Ramaswamy selected Ohio Senate President Rob McColley).
Here was the take of Howard Wilkinson (one of the longest-tenured political analysts in the state) on that pick:
“‘Though totally unknown across Ohio, McColley is a loyal member of Speaker [Matt] Huffman’s team,” Niven said. “The pick suggests the possibility that, one way or the other, after the election Matt Huffman will continue to run Ohio.’
DeWine has done nothing of substance in his second and final term as governor that Huffman hasn’t signed off on. It would likely be the same for Ramaswamy with McColley as lieutenant governor.”
Let’s be clear: for those looking for a change in Ohio’s direction, the prior two paragraphs are not good news.
For what it’s worth ($600M to be exact) McColley was also the architect of the Browns stadium deal that Ohioans across the state have been recoiling from ever since.
