These are large communities outside Cincinnati. The go-to places for not just GOP wins—but dominant GOP margins that drive overall state outcomes.
The traditional Republican base. Must-win areas if Republicans want to win Ohio.
Last night?
They all went blue.
You may remember Anderson—that’s where the backyard party was that I described a few weeks ago. The candidates who made me feel so hopeful:
I got so excited about these races I even called on folks at the “No Kings” rally to knock on doors in Anderson!
Well, those amazing candidates I met worked tirelessly and won the majority of the Anderson Townshjp Trustee Board, and swept onto the Anderson School Board.
A few years back, no one would have ever believed that could happen!
Democratic candidates were the top two finishers on the Mason City Council, and the Mason School Board. A few years back…unthinkable.
Democrats flipped a seat on the West Chester Board of Trustees, Ohio’s largest township. Kamala Harris topped out at 44% there a year ago.
Again, these are communities that those of us who watch Ohio election results expect to rack up big red margins.
They are also places where in the past, Democrats often didn’t even run candidates.
But this year, we did. And we won outright.
Best of all, this is just one corner of Ohio I happen to know well. So I know how stunning these outcomes are.
From reading the headlines, this same pattern played out all over the nation.
And wins and flips and upsets in the Andersons and Masons and West Chesters all around America show you just how wide and high the blue wave was last night.
So gear up, Democracy champions.
This is the beginning of the most important year of our lives—at least as democracy is concerned.
Recruit in every corner of every state, and keep getting out there in every way you can!!
In MAGA Lake County, three school boards ALL Democratic-endorsed candidates were elected DEFEATING all republican backed #MAGA candidates, even those getting OH Sen Moreno's endorsement! Talk about a BLUE WAVE!!👏👏
My jaw just dropped when David described the SW Ohio Democratic wins. I grew up there and went to college, and worked for a while before moving to Cols. I also lived in Grove City for some years. OMG.
I am ecstatic! I didn't think those areas would EVER move politically.
I wouldn't be surprised if David Pepper's inspiration was at least part of the winning equation. One thing's for sure: we can't afford to stop here or to rest on our laurels. We must expect a great deal from our blue winners. They have to show that they can be far more responsive to their constituents than Republicans ever were.
