Issue 1 Update: 5 Days To Go

Progress, A Big Thank You, and One Final (Big) Ask
8

Five days remain in the right wing’s push to inflict unaccountable, minority rule on Ohio through Issue 1.

As I wrote previously, the other side is going for broke, trying to close an early gap with a big push at the end. And this exact tactic has worked for them before. So we need to work as hard as ever to keep that from happening—and we do it by turning out OUR vote in big numbers through 7:30 pm Tuesday.

But before I connect you to those opportunities, let me share some good news, beginning with a BIG thank you!

As I explain in the video above, your support helped make a huge difference on two fronts.

First, your help allowed us to fully fund an effort to reach the 70,000+ voters (it started at 65,000, then climbed to 70,000) with outstanding absentee ballots who modelled as likely “No” voters on Issue 1. And we were able to reach that universe of voters multiple times, as did volunteers making phone calls and text messages.

And…it worked. As of early this week, 30,000 of those ballots had come back in.

As of last night, around 20,000 more had come in!

And that means that just under 20,000 of those votes remain outstanding—a big chunk of them are likely already at boards of elections and not yet processed amid a busy week, or are in the mail.

Bottom line: with you help, we’ve been able to chop down what had been a scary/large number down to size. And it’s shrinking by the hour. Thank you!

Second, early this week I wrote again, warning that the “Yes” side had dumped $5 million into its final week ad buy—an attempt to scare its base voters to show up on election day. At that moment, the “No” side only had about half that amount available to put on air. So it was urgent that we match their volume as best we could in this final week.

And again, you and so many others responded. By yesterday, thanks to so many of you (we wired what we collected yesterday morning) and countless others, the “No” campaign was able to also bring their final week TV buy to $5 million+. What an incredible collective effort to get there in only days. Thank you again!

Despite that progress, the biggest hurdle remains:

Why is the “Yes” campaign flooding the airwaves with $5M? To motivate their loyal voters to show up in big numbers on election day and overcome what is clearly a deficit from the early vote period on an issue that has been underwater in the polls throughout.

At this late hour, that means the most important thing we can all do is work as hard as we can to get OUR turnout up as well. Not just over the weekend, but on election day itself. The other side is hoping its election day margin overwhelms the current deficit…and we can not let that happen.

That’s the whole ballgame.

Which means the most important things you can do in these past five days are canvass, call and text voters to show up.

PLEASE….sign up for a shift. Then another. Then another.

You can do that here:

So…thank you again for all that you’ve already done!

And, however you can, don’t allow them to close the gap on election day. Help get every vote out.
