I got such a huge (and unexpected) national and international response to yesterday’s post on the Empty Chair Town Hall Meeting—particularly the “ChatGOP” aspect, where we used AI to provide answers for a missing Congressman based upon his public statements and stances—that I thought I’d send out the entire video of the town hall.
You’ll see what an electric and enjoyable evening it was.
As for the ChatGOP aspect, here are some examples of answers it provided to audience questions:
Hegseth-gate:
Attacks on federal workers’ rights:
Cuts to NIH and critical research:
The SAVE Act and its impact on women:
Gerrymandering:
Cuts to Social Security and Medicare:
Why do this?
Organizers believed that citizens had a right to hear what their so-called Representative—even in his absence—says about their concerns and questions in other settings and in public. So they used AI to draw from his own words and public positions to simulate how he might answer these citizens’ questions (which would otherwise have gone unanswered).
Then we let the citizens judge the answers for themselves. You’ll see from the video, they weren’t impressed!
But since we didn’t want to simply platform his right-wing talking points, I also took the time to fact check and rebut each one of the answers.
The format worked exactly as we’d hoped. A back and forth and informed dialogue even though he was actually absent.
If you’re interested in doing the same thing, I’m happy to put you in touch with the leaders of the Butler County Democratic Party who executed this so well.
Enjoy.
