Finally, I wrote yesterday about all the outrageous examples where the far right has weaponized government to undermine a citizens’ effort to protect rights. I also explained this to Ali Velshi on MSNBC on Sunday. As I said yesterday, we need to document it all.
So in that spirit, let me present to you government propaganda 101 — in the form of the language from my own ballot today. Look at how they framed and phrased a section of the “Ballot Summary”—on the ballot itself:
Now look at the Amendment itself (which is down the hallway from where people are voting, so no one actually sees it).
You will see that not only have they replaced the word “fetus” and “fetal” with “unborn child,” you’ll see they also flipped the entire clause (from “abortion may be prohibited after fetal viability….” to “Always allow an unborn child to be aborted at any stage of pregnancy, regardless of viability…”). Yes, the clauses that follow add conditions, but the entire emphasis of the sentence has been reversed.
Outrageous!
We can overcome this.
But THAT is the length they will go to to abuse government—in Ohio and too many other states these days—to subvert democracy and convince a majority to vote against their own views and their own rights.
One more reason to Vote Yes and say Hell No! to these abusive and Orwellian tactics.
