Surprised that Republicans don’t call out Trump’s latest attack on the Constitution?
Don’t be.
Be outraged, yes. But don’t be surprised.
For one, they almost never stand up to Trump. Even after an insurrection. It’s what allows him to continue to lead their party despite all the damage he’s done.
But far more important, their lack of response is a needed reminder that the attack on democracy is far bigger than Trump. As I walk through in the video, the attack began before Trump ever ran for office; of course it continued while he was there; and it’s continued since he left.
If he had admitted he lost in 2020, the attack would’ve continued. If he were locked up tomorrow, it would still continue.
Once you see that this is far bigger than Trump, it will no longer surprise you that those attacking democracy don’t speak up for core democratic norms—the same norms they have been attacking for years, largely in states.
And all this is critical to see.
Why? Prinarily so we all see that to battle FOR democracy effectively, we must focus on who, where and how they are waging it.
In states. All the time. Often outside of elections (like right now) when no one is watching
Fight back there, where most of the damage is being done.
