Quick note from David:
I was aghast at NBC’s hiring of Ronna McDaniel.
It’s one more step toward normalizing the wide-ranging and aggressive effort to overturn an American election and peaceful transfer of power. It’s similar to the Youngstown State University Board hiring an election denier as its new president, but for all the nation to witness. By making these decisions, institutions and their leaders are confessing that they have already normalized it all in their own minds.
I was equally aghast by her Meet the Press answer Ronna McDaniel offered as to why she didn’t speak up sooner: “When you’re the RNC Chair, you kind of take one for the whole team, right? Now I get to be a little bit more myself.”
Just a horrible answer.
No job—in public office or politics—provides a license to do the wrong thing by the country.
After all, the ultimate “team” we serve in politics is America, American democracy and the Constitution.
Taking one for that team means resigning before doing the wrong thing.
If you’re knowingly “taking one” for forces undermining that team, you failed your country.
That comment alone should be disqualifying.
