- Kevin Necessary
One note from me:
Beyond making a comparison to 2020 that (as Kevin perfectly captures) they may soon regret, Trump and his people are also pushing a narrative that 2019 was some type of banner year and that COVID interrupted it. It’s a sneaky way to convince Americans that Trump policies were initially working.
Don’t buy it.
The truth is, in states like Ohio, job growth had already ground to a halt by the end of 2019, squandering the strong growth Trump had inherited from President Obama. At almost zero new jobs, 2019 was the worst jobs year in Ohio since the Great Recession. Cleveland.Com spelled this out on January 9, 2020, with this perfect opening line: “Republican President Donald Trump told a crowd of thousands Thursday in Toledo that Ohio had its best year ever economically, even as the state lost jobs in 2019.”
By that time, our nation’s deficit was also growing rapidly because of the wildly irresponsible Trump tax cuts.
Do not for a moment let the this false narrative that all was strong until COVID go unrebutted. The truth is, reckless Trump and GOP trickle-down policies were already failing America BEFORE COVID, and those outcomes only grew worse as he terribly mishandled the pandemic.
One other note: it’s Election Day, Ohio. Vote!
Boy did last week’s cartoon strike a chord. I heard from so many of you that shared it:
