- Kevin Necessary

Yesterday, I reviewed the Top 5 things about JD Vance’s rise in Ohio that everyone needs to know.

So, my plan was to share the Top 5 things from Vance’s time as Senator and in politics that you also need to know.

But there was such an explosion of information yesterday, I’m going to lengthen my list.

Here’s a list of some of the many Vance lowlights, just so you get a sense (thank you to Ohio’s Rachel Coyle for putting much of this together):

  • One of the most infamous Vance comments came just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where he publicly said this about our ally on the brink of being attacked: “"I gotta be honest with you, I don't really care what happens to Ukraine one way or another.” He has since consistently advanced positions on the war that sound oddly close to Russia’s take.

  • Vance attacked the “childless left”—who he said have no “physical commitment to the future of this country”—“Why is this just a normal fact of … life for the leaders of our country to be people who don’t have a personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring?” He literally mentioned VP Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by name.

    • Question: Who. Does. That???

  • While attacking the “childless left,” Vance also has voted against protecting IVF as a Senator, and came out against Issue 1 last November in Ohio, which enshrined the right of Ohioans to make their own decisions as to fertility treatment in Ohio. 57% of Ohioans voted the other way

  • Vance celebrated the end of Roe, and “defended the Texas abortion law and argued against the need for exceptions for rape and incest in such restrictive statutes, downplaying such circumstances as “inconvenient.”” Again, 57% of Ohio voters disagreed.

  • Vance attacked universal childcare as “class warfare.”

  • Vance praised Orban’s political takeover of higher education.

  • Vance praised Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones as “far more reputable source of information than Rachel Maddow.”

  • Vance raised money for those who attacked the Capitol on January 6.

  • “JD Vance said people need to be more willing to stay in unhappy marriages for the sake of their kids—and seemed to suggest that in some cases, “even violent” marriages should continue.” …. “Some advocates for survivors of domestic violence are upset with Republican U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance for comments he reportedly made that suggest people in violent marriages shouldn't get divorced.”

  • Vance pushes the “Great Replacement Theory” that is a centerpiece of far-right propaganda, and has led to violence.

  • Despite being from Ohio, Vance has a 0% record with the AFL-CIO.

  • After the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, there was a bipartisan push by Vance and others to enhance the safety of rail cars on the nation’s rails. Finally, something good. But then…the “bill’s co-sponsor, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), quietly amended his own legislation to delay the tank car change by years, at the request of rail supplier and chemical industry lobbyists.”

  • And, perhaps worst of all, when it comes to January 6, “On the 2020 election, [Vance] said he wouldn’t have certified the results immediately if he had been vice president and said Trump had “a very legitimate grievance.”” And THAT is likely why he got the nod—he was willing to go along with Trump’s January plot that even Pence stood up to

The bad news is that Vance has no business being vice president of the United States.

The good news is that he brings nothing to the table to help Trump politically, while also manages to bring with him a long list of toxic statements and actions that would appal most Americans. Make sure people know:
