Hours ago, a Reagan-appointed federal judge confirmed the outrageous nature of Trump’s executive order attacking the Fourteenth Amendment and its declaration of birthright citizenship.
Federal judge John Coughenour issued a 14-day temporary restraining order, concluding that “there is a strong likelihood that Plaintiffs will succeed on the merits of their claims that the Executive Order violates the Fourteenth Amendment and Immigration and Nationality Act.” The Court also concluded that the plaintiffs “are likely to suffer irreparable harm”if the order is allowed to go in to effect.

But it was in separate comments that the judge made clear just how outrageous Trump’s executive order is.
Here’s what he said in open court:
“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades, I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order. There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say where were the judges, where were the lawyers?”
After asking if Trump’s attorney believed that the order was Constitutional—the lawyer said “absolutely”—the judge replied:
“Frankly, I have difficulty understanding how a member of the Bar could state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order…It just boggles my mind.”
