I’m always looking for good book suggestions, so I figured I’d share some of mine as we hit year’s end. And my theme is: books I couldn’t put down.
Note: I don’t read books as soon as they come out, so many of you will have read these. These are not in order.
1.
Chilling account of Germany in the mid-1930s. Scary similarities to today.
2.
So glad I discovered McBride this year. Certain individual chapters/scenes are pure art. A bunch more of his now on my stack.
3.
Lesson: Tell your own story (or someone else will tell it for you).
4.
Narrative history at its best—and most brutal.
5.
Was honored to meet Erik Larson this year. Incredible how he pieces together the details of the past.
6.
Great observations about risks we face now.
What books grabbed you this year? Would love to hear any reading suggestions you have in the comments below:
GREAT recent books by women: Miseducation (Katie Worth); Daring to Drive (Manal Al-Sharif); The 1619 Project (Nikole Hannah-Jones); Democracy Awakening (Heather Cox Richardson); Prequel (Rachel Maddow)
Undelivered by Jeff Nussbaum is very good -- great speeches, never delivered. Thanks for the suggestions!
